What is the WordPress menu? How to add Menu in WordPress

“WordPress menu”(Navigation menus) allow your users to find content across your site. This makes them more relevant to your site’s organization and user experience.

For example, if a reader finds your site with a search engine, they may not always be on your home page. To learn more about your site on the page they visited, they will need to know how to evaluate some of your content. As a rule, they will look at your menus to find out what else you can check out.

Most importantly, proper use of WordPress menus can improve Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for your site. Search engines reward relevant content so making sure your menus are clear about the content in them will boost your ranking.

Creating menus in wordpress

To create a navigation menu, you need to visit the Appearance »Menus page in your WordPress admin dashboard.

First, you require to name the menu, click on the required box such as ‘Primary Menu’ and then choose the ‘Create Menu’ button.

Next, you can select the pages you want to add to the menu. You can automatically add all new high-level pages, or you can select specific pages in the left column.

First, click the ‘View All’ tab to see all the pages of your site. Then click the box subsequent to each page you like to show in your menu, and then hit on the Add to Menu button.

Once your pages are added, you can move them by dragging and dropping them at the last click on Save Menu.

So, the menu will look somewhat like this in the below picture.

Note: May your menu look different that is due to having different Themes every theme has different designs.

Creating Drop-Down Menus in WordPress

Drop-down menus, also called nest-based menus, are navigation menus with main and sub-menu items. If you use your cursor over the parent object, all the child items will appear under it in the menu below.

To create submenus, drag the item below the parent item, then drag it slightly to the right. We’ve done that with 3 sub-items under ‘Services’ in our menu:
